My Journey into Cyber Security
Step 1: Finding A Path
The first thing I need to do is research and determine what entry role is best aligned for my strengths and interests. After that I need to research what certs or program best suites those roles.
Kansas State University Cybersecurity Bootcamp (30-hour Introductory Course)
I took this boot camp in hopes to come out with the necessary skills. To get the certifications I need to succeed. It was a good introduction to cybersecurity but I decided the full course was not the best investment.
Roles
Researching what roles and certs are most relevant to my location. Staying in my current location or working remote is ideal. In my research I came across a great site called cyberseek which has a map of supply and demand in every location. I found the roles best aligned to my interests and strengths were cybersecurity analyst, cybersecurity consultant, penetration and vulnerability tester, IT auditor, network engineer and systems engineer.
Certifications
The CompTIA Security+ is the most requested entry level certification. Followed by the GIAC certifications. Based on that information I decided to get the CompTIA Security+ cert first.
Step 2: Getting Certs
Now that I have decided on what cert to get. I need to determine the best way to study and permanently retain that information.
CompTIA Security+ (SY0-601)
Currently studying to pass the exam.
